Generations

7/22/24

You guys, this is not a drill! I have some incredible news for you all this morning. Last week, we were running some numbers for reporting (you know, all the boring stuff), and made a huge discovery. We are, exactly, 3 NEW MEMBERS AWAY FROM 1000! That’s right, we are at 997 Generations members. Crazy, right? I know! We decided that once we hit the magical 1K, we are going to do something fun to celebrate. While I asked Greg for a ticker-tape parade, we will most likely keep it a little more low-key than that. Regardless of what we do, it is crazy to me that we have so many people in our Generations family. Not only do we have almost 1K members, but we have an extremely high rate of active users at around 80%. To me, that’s almost more impressive than the 1K number. In any case, we’re all super excited to hit this milestone, hopefully sooner rather than later. If you have a friend that’s been debating whether or not to join, bring them in. It’s a great time to be at Generations!

I have a couple of other things I want to mention this morning before getting into the upcoming events. August is just around the corner and we have two big events we’re really excited about. First is our 1st ever Generational Trivia Fundraiser on Sunday, August 18th. Teams of up to 8 people will play against each other in rounds designed to appeal to every generation. Every round will have questions from the Silent Generation (1928-1945) through Generation Alpha (2013 – Today), so having an intergenerational team will really give you a leg-up. Registration is $80 per team and only the team captain needs to sign up. Visit www.generationsic.org to sign up through our website or stop in the office and talk to Joa or me.

The other big August event is the Paul Todd Jr. Concert on Friday, August 16th. Paul Todd Sr. has officially retired, so now it’s Paul Todd Jr.’s time to shine! His show is called The Michael Bublé Experience and will feature music by Michael Bublé (of course), as well hits by Sinatra, Darin, and the rest of the Rat Pack. The concert will be outdoors if the weather allows, but we do have the indoor space lined up, just in case. We will also have our traditional Dinner Buffet before the show for anyone who wants to make it a full-blown night out. The buffet will be $25 per person and begin 1 hour before the show starts. Otherwise, the concert portion is free an open to the public. Please email, call, or stop in the office to sign up for the dinner, or just show up on the 16th at 6:30pm for the show!

Alright, let’s take a look at what’s coming up this week and next…

Tuesday, July 23, 11:00am – Haley’s Comet Service Talk Come and meet the people behind Haley’s Comet Transportation, the new ride service being offered here in Plymouth. Learn about what services they provide, where they can take you to, what pricing looks like and more! You will also be able to ask any questions you may have about their service. See you there!

Thursday, July 25, 5:00pm – Jennifer Hogans Voice & Piano Performance Students of Jennifer Hogans will be at Generations to show off their talent to us. Join us for a delightful performance of voice and piano students. This is free and open to everyone.

Friday, July 26, 10:00am – Lemonade Stand with Growing Generations Unlike previous lemonade stands where we raised money for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s, this Lemonade Stand will be a little different. This time, we will be raising money for Growing Generations. We appreciate having them as a partner in our building and are looking to give back a little. As always, they will be set up across from the Pickleball courts.

Tuesday, July 30, 1:00pm – Tech Talk with Spencer Join Spencer for another great group tech talk. We ask that you please RSVP for Spencer’s talks. These talks fill up fast so don’t wait too long to let us know if you’re coming.

Wednesday, July 31, 9:30 – Bubble Bash @ Stayer Park The Plymouth Public Library is holding a Bubble Bash at Stayer Park! We will be walking with Growing Generations’ Jungle Cubs down to the event and are looking for volunteers to walk with us. If you want to have some good, old-fashioned bubble fun in the park with the kiddos, let us know. We’d love to have you join us!

Wednesday, July 31, 11:00am – Versiti Blood Drive Give the gift of life at the Versiti Blood Drive at Generations. Please visit tinyurl.com/pc073124 to schedule an appointment.

___________________________________________________________________________________

Two more quick hits for the morning. First, due to some vacations and scheduling, the Generations doors will be locked tonight (7/22) and tomorrow (7/23) at 4:00pm. We don’t have any scheduled events either evening, but I know sometimes people like to come in for a quiet place to be in the evening. The building will go back to its normal hours (7am – 7pm) on Wednesday (7/24). I’m sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

And lastly, I just wanted to take one last opportunity to thank everyone who came out to support Generations last week, both at the concert Tuesday night and the Golf Scramble and Walk Fundraiser on Wednesday. As I eluded to earlier, it was a crazy week on our end, but also incredibly rewarding. It absolutely warms our hearts and fills our cups to see so many people who care about Generations. Thank you for being the best membership, the best ambassadors, and the best supporters we could ever ask for.

Thanks everyone. Have a great week!

Monday Morning Greetings! Another Monday, another busy couple of weeks coming up! We have a lot of fun summer stuff coming up too, which is good because we are just about half way through August already! Can you believe it! Chris and I have to get to school shopping for Jacob pretty soon as we are meeting his 3 rd grade teacher in just two weeks. Time flies when you’re having fun, I guess. And speaking of having fun, I need to let you know about a few schedule changes coming up. Mike is going on vacation, so there won’t be any Tai Chi this week (8/13 and 8/15). I know he made an announcement in class, but in case he missed anyone, I wanted to give you a head’s up. Also, Sydney will be off on vacation as well between August 16 th and August 22 nd , returning for classes on the 23 rd . There won’t be any dance classes while she’s gone. Join me in wishing Mike and Sydney fun, safe, and relaxing summer vacations. Also, I need to update you on today’s Essential Stretch class. Poor Knox is sick so Emily needs to work from home today. This means she will not be able to hold this class today. She will look at rescheduling and let us know when the new date is. Sorry about this! Finally, if you remember from last week, I mentioned we are planning a trip to the Milwaukee Zoo, but I didn’t have many details yet. Well guess what? I have the details! Tuesday, August 20, 11:00am – Supporting our Youth: A Community Conversation You may have read the article in the Plymouth Review from David Hickmann. In it, he explained the challenges youth in our area face and for some, it was quite eye opening. Now you can enter the conversations with David and hear from him what is happening and what we can do to help. Join the conversation! Tuesday, August 20 – Summer Concert Series ft. Belle Musik It’s that time again! Join us for the third installment of the Summer Concert Series. This month, we will welcome Belle Musik to the patio for an amazing night of music, dancing, and fun. I have a lot to cover this morning, so I’m going to just dive right in! First, there is another correction I need to make from the August newsletter. Next, we are excited to announce another Day Trip is scheduled for September. This time, we’ll be taking the bus to the Milwaukee County Zoo! I’m super excited for this one. We don’t have all the details ironed out quite yet, but we will update you as soon as we have it. But for now, save the date! One more before the list of upcoming events. They are looking for workers to fill various positions, like entry gate attendants, golf cart transport drivers, bathroom attendants, cashiers at the steak shack, and concessions staff. If you're ready to join the fun and represent Generations, give Janeen Cain a call at 920-334-0800. She’ll help you find the perfect spot to fit your schedule! And hey, if you’re feeling extra generous, let Janeen know you’d like your pay to be a donation to Generations. Let’s make this fair a blast and support our community at the same time! That does it for today. Thanks for hanging in there with me. I know I through a lot at you for a Monday morning, but I appreciate the time you take to read through it all.
