Generations

07/01/2024

Good morning and happy July 1! I feel like I say this every month (because I probably to), but how in the world is it July already? You know what they say; time flies when you’re having fun. And we have a lot of fun around here, so it makes sense.

Speaking of fun things, we have a treat for you all on Wednesday. The kids from Growing Generations will once again be brightening our patio with the cutest 4th of July Parade you will ever see. It has become a tradition around here to kick off the patriotic holiday with the little ones. If you haven’t joined in the past, we hope you join us this week. It’s fun to watch and the kids love when they get an audience. More information on timing will be below in the ‘upcoming events’ section.

Next, I want to let you know that today is the deadline if you want to sign up for our next bus trip to the Fireside Theatre. We will be seeing Matilda, a fun musical based on the book Matilda by Roald Dahl. Tickets are $126 per person, but you get the bus ride to and from the theatre, dinner, and the show. Please call or email either Joa or myself ASAP if you want to join us!

Before we look at the events section, I have a favor to ask. Generations will have a booth at Mill Street Days again this year, and we are looking for 6 volunteers who would like to help represent our Center for the day. The event runs from 9am to 4pm, but we would need an extra hour from volunteers at the beginning and end for set up and clean up. If you are interested in joining us for the day, please click this link to sign up: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/904084FAEAC2CA2F94-50176884-mill. If you want to help but can’t commit to the times on the sign up, let me know! We can get creative with the schedule to make sure everyone who wants to get involved, can. Thank you in advance to everyone who signs up to help!

And with that, here’s what we have coming up…

____________________________________________________________________________________________________

Wednesday, July 3, 10:45am – 4th of July Parade with Growing Generations Feel free to bring others to enjoy the parade as well. The parade is timed out to happen between fitness classes, so feel free to poke your head outside before or after class. The more the merrier!

Thursday, July 4 and Friday, July 5 – Closed for the 4th of July

Monday, July 8, 11:00am – Veterans’ Chat All veterans are welcome to join us for lunch and conversation. The special of the day will be BBQ Pork on a bun for a suggested donation of $6. You do not need to be a member at Generations to join.

Tuesday, July 9, 1:00pm – History on the Move This month, Katie from the Sheboygan County Historical Research Center is taking a break. Instead, we will hear from Dan Buckman. Dan will be discussing the Lyndon Baptist Church and the Lyndon Cemetery. We hope to see you there!

Tuesday, July 9, 5:00pm – Embrace Care Summer Series: Medical Advocacy Join Mary from Embrace for the next session of the Aging Parents Educational Series. This month, she will be covering medical advocacy. Dealing with medical professionals takes knowledge that a lot of us don’t have. Learn what you need to know not only to advocate for your parents, but for yourself, too.

Thursday, July 11, 10:00am – 12:00pm – Slice of Service Volunteer Day We heard quite a bit of feedback on June’s Slice of Service day, so we are making some adjustments for this month. First, the window when to volunteer is much shorter. Then, we moved it to earlier in the day. Lastly, instead of pizza, we are going to have a lighter, healthier lunch option. But with all these changes, the goal remains the same, to help keep the Generations gardens and grounds looking their best. Thank you to everyone who came out last month, and thank you in advance to all of you who will be joining us this time. If you do join, please give us your feedback. Who knows, the August event may have more changes still.

Thursday, July 11, 11:00am – Fireside Chat with Greg If you’ve been to one of his Fireside Chats before, you know that Greg is a wealth of information on Generations. He is open to discuss any aspect of Generations as openly as he can. These are great for new members who want to learn more about us and for long-time members who are curious about the finer points of running the organization. All are welcome to join.

Thursday, July 11, 11:00am – Golf Mobility Workshop With our 12th Annual Golf Outing just a couple of weeks away, Emily decided it is the perfect time to do a Golf Mobility class. Join Emily to work on your swing, strength, and mobility so you can get the most out of your golf game. After class, sign up for the Golf Outing and show off your new moves!

Friday, July 12, 10:00am – Dog Club Pool Party It’s that time of year again! Join the Generations Dog Club on the patio for a summer pool party with the pups. There will be wading pools, summer treats, and we may even dust off the old Puppy Kissing Booth! All dogs (and people) are welcome to join, but please remember, all dogs must be leashed during the party.

Friday, July 12, 10:00am – Memories in the Making Generations will be hosting this month’s Memories in the Making meeting. This program, a signature program from the Alzheimer’s Association, is designed to help people with Alzheimer’s or other memory affecting disorders express themselves through art. These are instructor-led classes and all the material are provided. If you would like to join, please try to let us know ahead of time so we can have enough supplies for everyone.

____________________________________________________________________________________________________

One last note this morning. I know I mentioned it a few weeks ago, but please note that our Chair Yoga class (Mondays and Wednesdays at 1:30pm) is instructor-led, once again. We may still have a video here and there if someone is on vacation or out sick, but this will be the exception now, not the rule. Thank you Emily and Sydney for adjusting their schedules to make it work for this class!

That is all I have for you today. Enjoy the short week and HAPPY 4TH OF JULY!!

Monday Morning Greetings! Another Monday, another busy couple of weeks coming up! We have a lot of fun summer stuff coming up too, which is good because we are just about half way through August already! Can you believe it! Chris and I have to get to school shopping for Jacob pretty soon as we are meeting his 3 rd grade teacher in just two weeks. Time flies when you’re having fun, I guess. And speaking of having fun, I need to let you know about a few schedule changes coming up. Mike is going on vacation, so there won’t be any Tai Chi this week (8/13 and 8/15). I know he made an announcement in class, but in case he missed anyone, I wanted to give you a head’s up. Also, Sydney will be off on vacation as well between August 16 th and August 22 nd , returning for classes on the 23 rd . There won’t be any dance classes while she’s gone. Join me in wishing Mike and Sydney fun, safe, and relaxing summer vacations. Also, I need to update you on today’s Essential Stretch class. Poor Knox is sick so Emily needs to work from home today. This means she will not be able to hold this class today. She will look at rescheduling and let us know when the new date is. Sorry about this! If you're ready to join the fun and represent Generations, give Janeen Cain a call at 920-334-0800. She’ll help you find the perfect spot to fit your schedule! And hey, if you’re feeling extra generous, let Janeen know you’d like your pay to be a donation to Generations. Let’s make this fair a blast and support our community at the same time! That does it for today. Thanks for hanging in there with me. I know I through a lot at you for a Monday morning, but I appreciate the time you take to read through it all.
